Was There Something There Worth Loving For?

The following lyrics were inspired as I reflected on Taylor Swift’s Song: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Sometimes Taylor and other pop artists can put together words like no one else when it comes to expressing the deepest emotions of the heart. But where artists who don't embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ fall short is understanding the divine plan in pain and the sifting of trials and the weight of passive versus devoted love. True love that is unconditional in hope and self-sacrifice comes out of the love of Yahweh, our Creator, who revealed Himself in His incarnated form: Jesus, the Anointed One (Christ).

The following words came not only as I reflected on Taylor's words but on a painful experience I've been through with a very close friend.

Was there something there worth loving for?

Was kindred spirit and bestie, more–

A truism only and a metaphor?

Or was it something worth fighting for?

Ohhh that tsunami…Ohhh

That smacked us down and plunged us deep

Ohhh that tsunami…ohhh

That drove us under, broken weak.

Was that true death or a painful test

Of a deeper love and a stronger bond?

Did the strongest storm just reveal our form?

Great on top but down deep just porn?

Ohhh that tsunami…Ohhh

That smacked us down and plunged us deep

Ohhh that tsunami…ohhh

That drove us under–life we seek.

“Love is love,” say Millenials now

As they ride the current of the wave’s foam crest,

But if plunged they fall at its landfall,

Is true love standing at the test?

Ohhh that tsunami…Ohhh

That smacked us down and plunged us deep

Ohhh dear tsunami…ohhh

God’s Spirit raised us through the feat.

Jesus said that there’s no greater love

Than love still standing when its plunged to death;

Jesus showed what He claimed when He died,

To prove real love when it’s tried.

Ohhh that tsunami…Ohhh

That smacked Love down and plunged Him deep

Ohhh dear tsunami…ohhh

God’s Spirit raised Him through the feat.
